David Simison has been in General Civil Practice since 1980.
He graduated from the University of Maryland in College Park in 1976 with a B.S. in Journalism. He graduated from the University of Toledo College of Law in Ohio in 1979 with a Juris Doctor. He returned to Anne Arundel County to clerk for Hon. H. Chester Goudy, Jr. and was admitted to the Maryland Bar in 1979 and later the District of Columbia Bar and the West Virginia Bar. Since 1980 he has been engaged in a General Civil Practice and has been involved with thousands of legal transactions and countless Court appearances. His experience has been both broad and deep. He has been in sole practice since the mid ’80’s.
He has been involved in literally thousands of matters involving litigation in matters ranging from Adoption to Divorce to Partnerships though a large portion of his practice has always been in Real Property. He now rejects litigation as a favored method of resolving disputes and is active in Collaborative Representation. Currently he devotes significant time to Commercial Ground Lease negotiation and drafting as well as mediation. Since 1999 he initiated Community Engaged Development for the Lee family in Edgewater, Maryland resulting in the Village at Lee Airpark.
In 1995 reflecting his commitment to providing legal services to the under served, he opened The Street Legal Company. Street Legal offered do it yourself law books from Nolo Press and others. Street Legal continued for a number of years and then in 2009 Simison donated the entire remaining inventory of Street Legal’s books to the Anne Arundel County Public Law Library for it’s self-help section. Simison then merged The Street Legal Company into his law practice in which he then offered advice and coaching to do-it-yourselfers and pro se litigants. He helped with the Limited Scope Representation subcommittee of the Maryland Access to Justice Commission. Simison has always been committed to getting legal services to the under represented and under served.
He has appeared in the U.S. District Court, the Maryland Court of Appeals, the Maryland Court of Special Appeals and numerous Circuit and District Courts across the State of Maryland.
He is admitted to practice, but inactive, in Washington, D.C. and West Virginia.
He has served as President of the Anne Arundel Bar Association and the Anne Arundel Bar Foundation. He has served on the Boards of the Maryland State Bar Association, the Anne Arundel Bar Association, the Anne Arundel Bar Foundation. He is Vice-Chair of the ADR Section of the Maryland State Bar Association. He served as C0-chair of the Certification and Qualifications Committee of the Maryland Council for Dispute Resolution for more than 3 years, served as Co-chair of the Self-Awareness Task Group of the Maryland Program for Mediator Excellence, and serves as Treasurer of Anne Arundel Collaborative Professionals.
